The Texas Ambassadors a 13U basketball team from Central Texas went a
perfect 4-0 at the BCI Texas Tipoff Tournament held in Dallas, TX. The
victory earned the boys an automatic berth in the upcoming BCI National
Tournament to be held later in the summer of 2001.
In pool play on Saturday, the Ambassadors defeated Grapevine Panthers
74-37. Terrell Reese of Pflugerville scored 20 points and 6'5" Jeremy
Buttell of Colleyville Heritage added 17. The second pool game had a
similar result as the boys trounced Dallas Westside 74-38. This time the
guard play provided the bulk of the scoring with three pointers as Larry
Gordon of Killeen Rancier netted 18 and Chip Ivany of Pflugerville Park
Crest popped 14.
The semifinals saw the Ambassadors beat the Arlington Hokies 61-19 as
Buttell scored 23. The championship game was more of the same. In an
almost identical rematch with the Grapevine Panthers, the Ambassadors
walloped them 68-37. Reese had 23 and Buttell had 22. Despite the one
sided game the crowd was entertained by several thunderous dunks. Reese
who plays among the rim as well as anyone in the country, gets long looks
wherever he goes, even as a 7th grader.
